The problem with socialized medicine

The problem with socialized medicine, and socialized everything for that matter, rests squarely on the principle of the basic human right of ownership. Recently I was reading a little bit of John Locke's philosophy (which heavily contributed to the founding fathers of this country's philosophy, as well as the actors in the French Revolution and probably other political actions), and something jumped out at me: his staunch support of the basic human right to keep the fruits of his labor.

Locke held that when a human being transformed something from one state to another, it became his PROPERTY; and that governments were social contracts designed for the primary purpose of preserving personal property. What an interesting idea! In other words, when I work, I get the reward! It's was a novel concept in the world then, as it is now; particularly among the socialist elite that is running this country at the moment. This was the basic ideal of our founding fathers, most notably Thomas Jefferson, who abhored large government because of the apathy and dependency that it created.

Contrast that philosophy with the philosophy of Barack Obama, a production of Acorn and protege the leftist elite. He and his comrades are working overtime to promote a much different idea: The idea that the fruits of your labor or not in fact yours; but belong to the society as a whole. And, it follows that a strong government is needed to enforce this system, since it is not the usual state of human affairs to work tirelessly just to give away all the fruits of your labor.

So Obama proposes that the governement should "provide" or even "give" all citizens healthcare because it is a "right". Right. In order to give someone the fruits of someone else's labor, which is what we're talking about here, it is necessary to deprive the laborer of his fruits. This is a form of slavery at worst and wealth redistribution at best; because the GOVERNMENT has NOTHING to give. It produces NOTHING; therefore it can GIVE nothing. As Henry David Thoreau once said, "Government is best but an expedient...". Government is nothing but the force required to enforce the social contract of the people.

But the will of the people is not always just. It is far from just when it seeks to impose the will of the majority on the minority simply to deprive the minority of its lawfully gained fruits of labor. At this point democracy is reduced to a tyranny of the majority and the government becomes a thief. We now find ourselves in this situation. We have a Robin Hood government that plans to take the fruits of a minority's labor and provide it to the majority.

Soon the people will realize that they are not gaining from their own labor, and they are being robbed of their own wealth by the very government that they entrusted to enforce their rights to that wealth. When this happens the wealth will leave this country and go elsewhere. We will then be stuck with what's left; and will begin fighting with each other over the spoils.

This is the CHANGE that I expected from community organizer, labor union supporter and socialist in chief Barack Obama. Unfortunately the voting public by in large has not taken 5 minutes to read about John Locke, Thomas Jefferson, libertarianism, or any other facet of world history and philosophy.

Now they're going to get what they deserve: a crushing debt that will enslave their children and grandchildren; a dependency on a grossly inefficient system that makes their health care decisions for them, and a giant sucking sound as the best talent in the country boards the next flight out.

Thank you, fellow citizens, for squandering the final few trillion dollars that put the last nail in our collective coffins.

General update

Wow! We had a great turnout at the Northwest Arkansas Free Thought Society meet up last night! The group is really growing. Doc is working on a video and a play featuring our founding fathers and their sentiments regarding organized religion. I think it needs some work, but he gets the point across. The main characters are Thomas Jefferson, Sam Adams, George Washington and Ben Franklin. All of course were at best "deists" and some (notably Jefferson) could be regarded as atheist. Regardless of their personal beliefs, however, they all favored a secular state. Doc (and all of us) seek to dispel the notion that we were "founded as a Christian nation" and work to support separation of church and state (a phrase used by Jefferson).

IN other news... we are all starting the atkins diet. Of course to me its not really a "diet"; it's more of a way of eating that the human species was evolved to live by. So today we're rounding up all of our sugar, flower, starches, sauces.... anything with sugar, corn syrup, etc and we're tossing it all (or donating it). We have the book and Krystal is in charge of making the shopping list. Since I have lost 16 pounds in the last 2 months, and only have another 5 or so to go, I'm just going to start in the maintenance phase. I'm training for distance running and swimming, so I don't really need to go through induction I don't think. But that's exactly where Alice and Krystal are starting. So we'll have a cart load of meat, fish, eggs, cheese, and vegetables it sounds like. Fine with me.

I've managed to shave off a fair amount of time on my 2 mile run. My goal is to match my time in basic training of 13:47. I'm closing in on 15 minutes now, which is a huge improvement over my probably 18 minutes a few months ago. That's what swimming and running every day will do for ya though! A parallel goal is to do a 10k by the end of this fall. I guess I need to get to work and find one.
